University of Ottawa Entrance & Excellence Scholarships 2024-2025 for African Students Studying in English

The University of Ottawa has announced an $11 million scholarship for African students. The University of Ottawa Entrance & Excellence Scholarships 2024-2025 for African Students Studying in English will provide incoming students with a four-year scholarship to cover the partial cost of their university tuition.

The University of Ottawa is proud of its international student diversity and is always looking to increase this diversity. Following in the footsteps of the Differential Tuition Fee Exemption Scholarship for international students studying in French, the University of Ottawa Entrance Scholarship for African Students Studying in English will help expand the University of Ottawa’s reputation as a leading post-secondary institution across all of Africa.

The new University of Ottawa Entrance Scholarship for Africans will give African students studying in English access to numerous pilot programs in three faculties for a significantly reduced cost of tuition.

Purpose of the University of Ottawa Entrance Scholarships Fund

This renewable scholarship is offered to all newly admitted undergraduate international students for the Fall 2024 term, who are African citizens, studying in English, and are enrolled in a specific undergraduate program in the Faculty of Social Sciences or the Faculty of Science.

Who can Apply for University of Ottawa Entrance & Excellence Scholarship 2024-2025?

All eligible students are considered for this award and will be notified at the time of their admission. Although no application is required for this scholarship, recipients will be asked to submit proof of citizenship of a country or territory in Africa before receiving their first installments.

The applicant must:

  1. Be an international student with a valid study permit;
  2. Have citizenship from one of the countries in Africa;
  3. Be newly admitted in one of the following undergraduate programs offered in English or with French Immersion:
    • Engineering: Civil Engineering; Chemical Engineering
    • Social sciences: Sociology; Anthropology; International Development and Globalization; Conflict Studies; Public Administration
    • Sciences: All programs except the Honours BSc in Biochemistry / BASc in Chemical Engineering; Honours BSc in Physics/BASc in Electrical Engineering; and Honours BSc in Ophthalmic Medical Technology
  4. Be enrolled full-time; and
  5. For the Entrance scholarship: have an admission average of 89.99% or lower once converted in our grading scale
  6. For the Excellence scholarship: have an admission average of a minimum of 90% once converted in our grading scale.

Benefits of University of Ottawa Entrance & Excellence Scholarships 2024-2025 for African Students

  • The University of Ottawa Entrance Scholarships will provide incoming students with a four-year scholarship to cover the partial cost of their university tuition.
  • The important financial contribution to each candidate’s education reduces their tuition fees by $17,500 to $25,000 for the excellence scholarships and by $12,000 to $20,000 for the entrance scholarships, depending on the program annually.

Note: That all students who are qualified for this scholarship will automatically receive it upon enrolment and it will be directly applied to their tuition fees.

Renewal Criteria

The University of Ottawa Entrance and Excellence Scholarships for African Students Studying in English in Canada 2024/2025 can be renewed each subsequent study year, for the same amount offered at the time of admission, provided that the recipient:

  • Maintain full-time registration in the undergraduate program in which the student was admitted and enrolled; and
  • Have a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 5.0 or higher at the end of each academic year.
